Shopping, but not really

July 9, 2008

Since it is midnight and I have insomnia for the third night in a row (this doesn’t usually happen to me, so I’m at a loss), I figured I’d shop online. Then blog about it. Then try to sleep again. My mind is just not where it should be this week.

I have a plan for what I am buying this month as far as clothes go. Strapless bra, and sunglasses. That’s it, really. I also badly need new shoes of almost every kind, but particularly brown work shoes (also summer sandals, brown casual sneakers, and cuter black work shoes). If I find those, I’ll buy them, no matter what. My current ones are crap.

I don’t wear skirts to work, so I need brown shoes that go will with my several pairs of brownish dress pants. My maximum heel preference is only 1 inch or less. I’m already on the tall side, and I don’t like anything higher. They probably should be closed toe. Non-ugly. I spent an hour at DSW and didn’t find a thing that suited me. All the cutest shoes have at least 2 inch heels anyway. I’m kind of sick of the patent look. It looks cheap to me. I think some sort of stylish boot would work well, but apparently boots are either really unpopular/out of style or maybe just out of season. I’m helpless with shoes, at least I am lately.

Anyway. T went shopping at Martin + Osa this week, which is, from what I can tell, a Banana Republic wannabe. I’m a little against the concept and the non-sale clothes are expensive. Then again, so is BR, I suppose. I found myself on their website, picking out clothes. I even added them to my online shopping bag.

Most of all, I liked this purple hoodie. Even though it is fun to look “nice” sometimes, I have a love for hoodies and t-shirts. But the hoodie is barely on sale at $50. And a hoodie? Don’t I have like 4 of those already? (But not purple! And they are all older! This is fleece! Look at the cut! I don’t have any new ones!) I can’t wear a hoodie to work! Well, actually, I probably could, but probably wouldn’t.

This and this are much more work friendly. I claim that I want more button up shirts for work, but whenever I try them on, I don’t buy them. They usually seem too frumpy/boring for some reason, and I rarely like them. These look like they have potential, but maybe they don’t. Maybe they’ll disappoint.

Being helpful and nice, T offered to go shopping with me if I wanted. If I don’t go to the store, if I close the window and don’t come back, I’ll forget that I wanted these clothes. Is that what I should do? Really?

(Found a coupon code for 20% off (just google it, or check stylenotes.com), bringing the total to $40 for the non-needed hoodie.  Free shipping.  Free returns.  Still did not purchase.  Yet.)

Martin + Osa is the higher end offering from American Eagle. They are absolutely a wanna be BR. The purple hoodie is cute, but definitely overpriced.

I am a huge fan of flats for work, and as long as your pants aren’t too long it can look professional. Gap has nice ballet flats, and they hold up pretty well, although foot support is minimal. I’ve always liked American Eagle shoes, and they have some cute mocassins right now. Kind of pricey, but they usually drop the price after a few weeks.

Target has some nice kitten heels, here and here.

Urban Outfitters also has a huge collection of shoes, and I’ve have pretty good luck with them.

Seriously, I will look at shoes all day if I have an excuse…

I have those kitten heels from Target! In 3 colors!!

I love them, but they don’t hold up to wear 3-4 days a week for months. The heels get worn off to metal fairly quickly, then I walk around making “click, click, click” noises, and I feel like I’m wearing cheap shoes. (Because I am.) And sometimes I slip, which is more my fault than the shoe, but still.

I’ll check out the other suggestions. I think i hate shoe shopping, which is why I always need new shoes.

I like those shirts, nice picks! I wish they had them in my size. What am I talking about? I can’t shop right now!
*sigh* Ever since I banned jeans and tees from my work wardrobe, I’ve been hard-pressed to keep properly dressed. My second pair of Nine West flats are starting to fall apart because I keep wearing them everyday, but all my non-sneaker shoes aren’t particularly comfortable either.

@Revanche – Yeah, XL isn’t really my size (the first shirt) and they had it in yellow last night… but T said that they had way more sizes in the store! And with 20% off, that is really only $16 for the short sleeve ones, $25 for the other… Not bad!

I’m tempted to buy online and attempted exchange in the store for proper sizes.

I only wear dress pants (or slacks, or jeans…depending on which workplace) at work and I think flats are the best thing ever. I’m not partial to ballet flats, they seem better for skirts. But I’m quite fond of my flats with a 1/2 inch sole. So comfortable for commuting and much less stress on my body, since I’m on my feet most of the time at both outside-the-house jobs.

I found some good ones, I don’t remember where.

Good luck with the shopping…I’m also trying to redo my wardrobe and it’s more frustrating when you’re being intentional. Easier when you just see something and think “Hey, this would go with that!” 😛

Those items are really cute, especially the hoodie! Makes me want one really bad (cuz all my hoodies are really old & not adorable like that lol). I bought a pair of Jessica Simpson 1.25″ wedges (called ‘Dafa’) that I love & wear with EVERYTHING – even though I am very short & prefer 3″ heels, but these are so comfy 🙂

You got free returns, go for it! It is supposed to replace trying it on in the store, you don’t like it, send it back!
