Shopping, for real this time

July 11, 2008

OK, it is mine.

I had yet to confess that I bought the purple hoodie. I ordered it in an insomniatic fit Wednesday night for $40 (including 20% discount). I also ordered a nice work shirt in 2 sizes, intending on returning one next week after seeing what fit. I just don’t trust size charts. Free shipping, free returns, so why not at least try it on? Apparently, I have no will power. Are there studies that prove you buy more when you are exhausted, or do I have to submit myself as a real live (bad) example?

Today, I returned to Martin + Osa website, and found the hoodie for just $30, and the 20% off coupon code (via stylenotes.com) still works! That is $23 for a hoodie. SO reasonable!! They did happen to sell out of purple size S, so I’m going to see what i can do to get the new price but keep the original hoodie I ordered. I’d be willing to accept blue or white to save $17.

They also added some new items to the sale, and I noticed different size availability. There are some seriously good basic work shirts for under $20, but if you don’t need any seriously good basic work shirts, just avoid this site. Seriously. Do not go there, it is an evil temptress, taunting you with “free shipping” banners and allowing you to play with layering clothes on cute virtual models. By the way, I read online that the target customer base is 30-40 and “If it looks like it is made for a 20 year old, we don’t make it.” I like it anyway.

I’ll report the total damage is once I get the merchandise and figure out what needs to be returned and what I’m keeping. Maybe the hoodie will be ugly in person?

Good note: I redeemed 25 “points” I had at work for a $25 gift card to Nordstrom, which will get me about halfway to my intended bra purchase. Much better than using them to shop at the company store.

PS – AEO, the company that owns the store is down almost 10% this week, despite my effort to single handedly prop up the price.

Oh my Lord I’m going to just have to skip over shopping posts, aren’t I? They have that really nice short-sleeved top in white, in my size, free shipping+free returns, and 20% off? Oh dear.
