Tentative Vegas Vacation Budget

August 1, 2008

Our hotel and campsite are already paid for, but lots of spending is ahead. We will be spending Tuesday, Wednesday nights in Vegas with some friends, then Thursday-Saturday in the Grand Canyon by ourselves, and driving home Sunday. Originally, we had a third night in Vegas, but opted to switch it and head to the Grand Canyon early. Vegas will be fun and exciting, but the Grand Canyon is more my cup of tea. Slightly cheaper, though we lost our $50 gas card promo by dropping down to 2 nights, so lodging costs are almost a wash. But that’ll keep me from feeling too poor while hanging out in Vegas with my extravagant friend. Live well for two days, then go camping!

Vacation budget: $515

  • Gas: $135, $270 dived by two. I’m interested to see my mileage on highway driving.
  • Food: $150+ (Hard to know. We’ll dine out when in Vegas, and we’ll need camping food for the grand canyon)
  • Gambling: $50 (I’m not into gambling, might not even use this.)
  • Show: $100 $55 (use Goldstar to get a discount)
  • Stratosphere tower and a ride: $20 (yes I want to do this!)
  • New York New York rollercoster: $14 (Maybe I”ll just pick ONE of the two…)
  • Fun/Drinks/Going out: $75 (I have no idea. Hopefully quite a bit less.)
  • Laying around the hotel luxuriating, hiking, basking (sweating) in the GC glory: Free!
  • Buffer: $50 (campfire wood? Whatever?)

To be taken from regular budget: $100
To be taking from struggling Travel Fund: $415

What else are we even going to do?? I need to get planning!
Have a good weekend everyone!!

Look out for the coupon books! You can get two for one show tickets for lots of shows in Vegas with them, and they’re all over (in cabs, hotel lobbies, on the street etc.). Ditto restaurants, buffets, maybe even that rollercoaster:-)

This makes me want to take a trip to Vegas! If you are looking at buffets, I found this article a while back that seems useful: http://www.reviewjournal.com/dining/buffets.html

Also, check FatWallet.com for potential deals/tips. I have friends who signed up for the “Player’s Card” or something at the Wynn and got a free buffet (~$40 value) there… maybe you can look into that.

A five day trip for $515 to Vegas is good budgeting. Hopefully you may get lucky with one spin of the wheel.

Don’t forget to check your tire pressure and remove any unncessary items from your trunk to save weight to help you save money on gas by improving your gas mileage. Have fun in Vegas!
