Ansel Adams Wilderness

August 3, 2010

T and I escaped on a backpacking trip to the Inyo National Forest near mammoth lakes last Thursday – Sunday.  It was pure heaven.  I felt so relaxed!

We spent just three days hiking (two nights), starting out around 7, reaching camp around noonish, then spent the rest of the afternoon relaxing, reading, dipping into icy lakes, and enjoying the scenery.  We kept the mileage reasonable 9 or so miles each day (unlike last year when day 1 was a grueling 14 miles and lots of elevation), so it was incredibly relaxing and enjoyable.  I’d be overjoyed to share additional details for anyone who has specific questions, but I’ll let the pictures do most of the talking from here on out.

First, the route, for any map geeks or other hikers – click if you want to be able to read it!

Second, the collage!

Budget info coming soon!

This is ~5 hours north of LA, so a bit of a drive for us even. But northern california wilderness is GORGEOUS! SoCal just can’t compete in that department.

Our daughter just completed 5 days on the trail, then ended in a Mammoth Lakes Condo. What a life!
